The short version: every calculation runs entirely in your browser. No figures you enter — payslip amounts, rates, tax codes — are ever sent to our servers, stored, or shared with anyone.
What we collect
When you use any of the Rate to Reality tools — the umbrella calculator, payslip checker, umbrella vs limited, or methodology page — we collect nothing. All computation happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing is transmitted to us.
Analytics
We use privacy-friendly analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages are most useful. We do not use Google Analytics. Any analytics we use:
- Do not track individuals across sites
- Do not use cookies for analytics purposes
- Do not collect personal data or IP addresses
- Aggregate page visit counts only
Cookies
Rate to Reality does not use cookies for advertising, tracking or personalisation. The site may use a single session-level cookie if your browser requires it for standard operation; no personal data is stored in it.
Shareable links
The umbrella calculator has an optional "Copy shareable link" feature. This encodes your inputs (rate, tax code, margin, etc.) into the URL as query parameters — nothing is stored on our servers. The data lives only in the URL you choose to share.
Third-party services
This site is hosted on Vercel. Vercel may log standard server access data (IP address, browser type, pages visited) for security and infrastructure purposes under their own privacy policy. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts; Google may log font requests under their own privacy policy.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes we will update the date below and, where appropriate, note it on the site. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
